2012-2013 BUDGET APPROVAL

The operating budget for 2012-2013 was tentatively approved by the Carrollton Board of Education on May 8, 2012. This proposed budget includes a 2-mill property tax increase based on the projected local tax digest. The school board will hold a public meeting on June 12, 2012, at 6 p.m. for the budget approval. The meeting will be held at the Carrollton Board of Education, 106 Trojan Drive, Carrollton, Georgia.

FY13 MILLAGE RATE APPROVAL/PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

The Carrollton Board of Education has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 8.10 percent.

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase to be held at the Carrollton Board of Education office, 106 Trojan Drive, Carrollton, Ga., on Tuesday, June 26, at 6:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, July 10, at 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 19.19 mills, an increase of 2 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 17.19 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with fair market value of $75,000 is approximately $52 a year and the proposed tax increase for nonhomestead property with a fair market value of $150,000 is approximately $300 a year.

The proposed tax increase is needed to offset revenue shortfalls created by a declining local tax digest (see below) and continued reductions in state funding.
