Trojans at the Next Level

Welcome to Trojan Swimming and the 2012-2013 Swim Season.

Swim Update from Coach Mark McCormick

The Trojan Swim Team carried its success from the Clarke-Oconee Invitational at the University of Georgia to Newnan. The Trojans competed against 16 other teams in the East Coweta Indians’ Tribal Challenge where they finished third.

I was very proud of the team’s performance. Out of the Trojan swimmers, all twenty posted personal best times in at least one event and twelve swimmers amassed 318 points in combined scoring. In individual events, Senior Josh Grover placed first in the 100 fly and second in the 200 Individual Medley (IM). Senior Ty Montemoino slipped on the blocks at the start of his 50 free and was disappointed with his eighth place finish but came back in the 100 free finishing first with a career best and blistering 49.82 seconds. Freshman Brittany Herndon placed second in both the 200 free and the 500 free. Junior Carolyn Ives placed third in both the 200 IM and 100 breast. Asher van Zanten finished fifth in the 200 IM and just missed a state cut in the 100 fly finishing seventh. Sophomore Emily Williamson finished third in the 200 free and seventh in the 500 free. The Boys 200 Medley Relay of David Wilkerson, Asher van Zanten, Josh Grover, and Ty Montemoino finished fifth. The same relay finished second in the Boys 400 Free Relay.

The Girls 200 Medley Relay of Brittany Herdon, Carolyn Ives, Megan Hooper, and Mina Momtahan just missed a state cut but finished fifth. The Girls 200 Free A Relay of Brittany Herdon, Carolyn Ives, Emily Williamson, and Mina Momtahan posted a state qualifying time and finished in third place. The Girls 200 Free B Relay of Megan Hooper, Sara Beth Alford, Hanna Cross, and Elizabeth Robinson finished in ninth place. The Girls 400 Free Relay of Hanna Cross, Sara Beth Alford, Elizabeth Robinson, and Emily Williamson placed fifth.

Sara Beth Alford, Evan Jobe, Elizabeth Robinson, Hanna Cross, Alyssa Gunnells, Megan Hooper, Mariyah Bruton, Kaycee Chapman, Jason Ishoy, and Josh Wright posted personal best times in both of their individual events. Ty Montemoino, David Wilkerson, Carolyn Ives, Lylli Menjivar-Couch, Asher van Zanten, and Brittany Herdon posted personal best times in one of their individual events.

Out of the Trojan 20, eight will travel to Georgia Tech to compete in the GHSA State Championships on February 8 and 9. Josh, Ty, David, Asher, Carolyn, Mina, Emily, and Brittany will compete in relay events while Josh, Ty, Asher, and Carolyn have qualified in at least two individual events.

Practice Schedule:

Because of the limited lane space, Bluefin swimmers will practice with the Bluefins and adhere to the schedule set by Coach Weeks. Seasonal swimmers will have the following practice schedule:

  •  Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 6:30 p.m. -8:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday 3:45 p.m. -5:00 p.m.

Warm-Ups:

Warm-ups will promptly begin at the designated practice times; therefore, you are expected to be changed and on the pool deck at those times. Once warm-ups begin, if you are not in the water, you will be considered late. Unless you have made prior arrangements with me or have a valid excuse, tardies will be considered unexcused and will be taken into account for lettering at the end of the season.

Mandatory Pre-Meet Team Meetings (7:15 a.m. CHS Room 508):

  • Friday, Nov. 30
  • Friday, Dec. 7
