Heat Policy:

In accordance with the Georgia High School Association by-laws, the Carrollton High School high heat/humidity guidelines are designed to regulate practice schedules during times of high heat and/or humidity. In order to protect student-athletes from high heat/humidity issues or risks, the following guidelines will be used by staff members of the Athletic Department to modify or terminate practices when conditions warrant.

A scientifically-approved instrument will be used to daily measure the heat index. Thirty minutes prior to practice, a designated staff member will measure the heat index (temperature the body feels when heat and relative humidity are combined). The athletic trainer and coaches will use the approved guideline to make practice modifications or terminate practice. The athletic trainer and coaches will notify student-athletes and school administration of the existing conditions and practice modifications.

The athletic trainer and coaches will be responsible for instructing student-athletes on adequate and proper hydration techniques. Student-athletes will be afforded opportunities to continually hydrate themselves on days of practice and competition if conditions reach critical levels in relation to heat and/or humidity.
