Meet the Board

Chair/Ward Four
Dr. Jimmy Pope was elected to serve a ninth consecutive term in 2015. He is a retired surgeon, Carrollton High School alumnus and the father of two children who also are graduates of CHS.

From 2001-2007, Dr. Pope served as the Sixth District director for the Georgia School Boards Association and served as vice president of that organization in 2007 and was elected president in 2009. He also served as chairman of the Carrollton Board of Education from 1995-2008 and from 2010-2014. He was once again elected chair of the board in 2016. His wife Carmen is a registered nurse at Tanner Medical Center.

David Godwin was re-elected in November 2013 to serve a second term on the school board as an at-large, or citywide, representative. A mortgage loan officer, he and his wife Andrea have four children: Hali, a CHS and University of West Georgia graduate, and Emily, Josie and Jack who are students in the school system. Mr. Godwin is active in his church and has been involved in many youth organizations and activities. He was elected vice chair of the board in 2015.

Treasurer/Ward One
Greg Dothard is serving his third consecutive term on the board, first appointed in December 2008 to fill the Ward One post vacated by the death of long-time board member Joshua Mabry and then elected in 2009 to complete the remainder of the unexpired term. He ran unopposed in 2011 and 2015.

Dothard is a 1993 graduate of Carrollton High School where he was a star athlete. He continued his education at Northwestern Oklahoma A&M College and Georgia Military College on football scholarships. In 1999, he was inducted into the Trojan Hall of Fame. Dothard is employed by the Georgia Power Company and is involved in church and community activities. He and his wife, Mary, have three children: sons Deion and Desmond; and daughter Daija. He served as board vice chair from 2010-2014 and was elected treasurer in 2016.

Ward Three
Dr. Jason Mount was re-elected in November 2013 to serve a second term on the school board. An emergency room physician at Tanner Medical Center, Dr. Mount and his wife Heidi have five children. He and his family moved to Carrollton in 2005 and since have been joined by his parents, his wife’s parents and three of his siblings and their families. Dr. Mount also works throughout our region with Eagle Scouts and is working with youth at his church. He served as board treasurer in 2015.

Carrollton optometrist Michael Rothschild is serving his fourth term on the board, re-elected in 2015. Active in community affairs, he is former chair of the Carrollton City Schools Education Foundation and regularly speaks to groups about vision and eye health. Dr. Rothschild served as chair of the Board of Education in 2009 and 2015. He is married to the former Christy Haney, Carrollton native and CHS graduate. They have two children, Caroline and Samuel.

Vice Chair/Ward Two
Katie Doyle Williams, the newest member of the board, began serving her first term in office in January 2014. A lifelong resident of Carrollton, Williams is a homemaker, paralegal and volunteer. She and her husband Brandon have a son and daughter, Reece and Mallory, who are students in the school system.

Williams earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of West Georgia and continues an affiliation with the university as House Association President for Alpha Gamma Delta, Gamma Tau Chapter sorority, and as a board member on UWG’s alumni association. She is also involved in other community projects as well as serving as a PTVO board member at CES.
