Farm to School Program

Carrollton City Schools Farm to School Program focuses on serving Georgia Grown and locally sourced food products as part of school meals, however the program encompasses more. The School Nutrition Program encourages students to taste, cook and learn with food in a variety of ways. School garden experiences provide hands on learning with practical life applications for academic standards, concept retention and STEM application. Tasting opportunities are provided with a wide variety of foods in multiple locations with the understanding that healthy food exposure can lead to better acceptance. Cooking experiences are paired with standards based lessons and nutrition education lessons allow for use of imagination, sensory experiences, practical math and science skills, reading comprehension, following written instructions and increased self- confidence. School Nutrition initiatives impact a child’s positive relationship with healthy foods developing lifelong good eating habits, enjoyment of healthy meals, support for local agriculture impacting future generations.
