CARROLLTON, GA — Carrollton High School junior Grayson Faircloth recently graduated from the inaugural Youth LEAD Georgia cohort—a prestigious leadership development program supported by the University of Georgia, Chick-fil-A and The Same House. As Faircloth concludes his participation, CHS sophomore Mason Scoville has been selected for the 2025 class.
The University of Georgia’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development runs this statewide youth program which aims to build the knowledge and skills of future Georgia leaders. In partnership with The Same House organization and Chick-fil-A Inc., each cohort participates in experiential learning activities and training focused on citizenship curriculum and the importance of community involvement, according to Youth LEAD Georgia.
Through a nomination process, 30 sophomores and juniors statewide are selected to attend retreat workshops throughout their year in the program. With each session held at a different location around the state, students learn more about Georgia and how leadership decisions impact communities. At the end of the summer, students are invited to a leadership summit in Athens.
Mason Scoville was selected for the 2025 Youth LEAD Georgia class and will attend his first program retreat this month. He is actively involved in organizations and extracurricular activities at CHS, serving as a leader among his peers.
By fostering a deeper understanding of Georgia's unique challenges and opportunities, the program empowers the next generation to become effective leaders.
“Getting to participate in Youth LEAD Georgia was one of the highlights of my year,” said Grayson. “It was very helpful for improving my leadership skills but also a fun experience where I got to meet so many amazing people from across our state.”
Programs like Youth LEAD Georgia play a vital role by providing teenagers with the leadership training, mentorship and networking opportunities necessary to become effective change-makers within their communities and across the state. Carrollton High School encourages students to participate in such programs.
“Leadership programs like Youth LEAD Georgia are instrumental in showing students how to take initiative, develop critical skills and become active contributors to their communities,” said CHS Principal Ian Lyle. “At CHS, we are committed to providing opportunities that foster growth and prepare our students to lead with confidence and integrity now and in the future.”
