Title I Program

What is Title I?

Title I is a federally funded program which provides services to schools based on student economic need. Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provides financial assistance to state and local educational agencies to meet the needs of at-risk children. The goal of Title I is to provide instructional services and activities that support students in meeting the state’s challenging performance standards. A Title I school-wide program permits schools to use resources to upgrade the entire educational program of the school and to raise academic achievement for all students.

Title I-A, Family-School Partnership

Family Engagement

Family engagement means the participation of parents and family members in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring:

  • That parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning.
  • That parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education.
  • That parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.
  • The carrying out of other activities, such as those described in Section 1116 of the ESEA.
