Scholarship Opportunities

 

Carrollton City Schools Education Foundation scholarships are selected through an application process and/or by independent recommendations per the scholarship endowment agreements. Please refer to the scholarship policies and procedures for guidelines on the scholarship selection process. Scholarship applications should be submitted online during the scholarship window below. If applicants have issues with the online form, they may utilize the printable application which needs to be turned into the CHS Guidance Office by the deadline below.

The Coach Charlie Grisham Memorial Scholarship

The Charlie Grisham Athletic Scholarship was first awarded in 2000 as a memorial by family and friends of the legendary Trojan head football coach and athletic director. This award, supported by a community endowment and the Carrollton High School Athletic Booster Club, is presented annually to two Carrollton High School graduating seniors (one male and one female).

The Don Hall Band Scholarship

The Don Hall Band Scholarship, a tribute established by former students of the retired CHS band director and first awarded in 2002, each year recognizes a graduating senior who exemplifies the high level of leadership and dedication to the Trojan Band that Mr. Hall expected of his students. This award is supported by a community endowment and the Carrollton High School Band Booster Club.

The Ben Stallings Football Scholar Award

The Ben Stallings Football Scholar Award was established in 2009 as a memorial by family and friends of 2005 Carrollton High School graduate Ben Stallings, an exceptional student-athlete and third-generation Trojan. This award is presented annually to a graduating senior football player with the highest academic average.


The John Wesley Tanner Jr. Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship, first awarded in 2003, honors the memory of Carrollton native John Wesley Tanner Jr., a successful businessman who served as president of C.M. Tanner Grocery Co. for many years. Mr. Tanner, a man of high moral character, was devoted to serving the Carrollton community through his church and civic affiliations.

The Stanley Parkman/Times-Georgian Media Award

This scholarship, established in 2007, honors the memory of Stanley Parkman, founder and long-time publisher of the Times-Georgian newspaper, sponsor of this scholarship. Mr. Parkman, whose four children are graduates of Carrollton High School, had been a strong supporter of the school system for many years.

The Trojan Spirit and Leadership Scholarship

The Trojan Spirit and Leadership Scholarship, honoring Doyle and Margaret Garrett, was established by their children in 2003 as a tribute recognizing their tireless support of Carrollton High School and the Trojan tradition of excellence. Criteria for the scholarship recipient include: True need of financial assistance; true leadership demonstrated in the sport of football, baseball, basketball or cheerleading; vital contributor to his or her team’s success; conduct becoming of a Trojan; a desire in the classroom to do what it takes to be successful in college. The annual $2,000 award is supported by an endowment and family contributions. Recommendations for this scholarship are made by a panel of school faculty and leadership and selected by the Foundation Scholarship Committee.


The Whitley Morris Scholar-Athlete Award

This scholarship honors the memory of Whitley Morris, a 1927 graduate of Carrollton High School, and was first awarded in 2006. Mr. Morris was a successful businessman who left an endowment to the school system to fund two scholarships to be awarded to one male and one female student-athlete annually. Recipients are decided by a committee including the Carrollton City Schools superintendent, Carrollton High School principal and Carrollton High School athletic director. All CHS athletes are eligible and considered for this scholarship with consideration given to multi-sport participation, financial need, academic achievement, and character.


The Lisa Crawford Love Family Scholarship for the Performing Arts

The Lisa Crawford Love Scholarship for the Performing Arts was established in 2013 by the Lisa Crawford family. Lisa Crawford Love, a Carrollton High School graduate, is a performing arts professional who operated a successful performing arts studio for many years in Carrollton. This scholarship honors a student who exhibits a passion for the arts and a strong desire to pursue a career in theater, voice or dance.

The Susan W. Gordy Spirit Award

First awarded in 2013, this scholarship was established by cheerleading parents as a tribute to the team’s former head coach who led three competitive squads to state titles. The recipient of this award embodies true Trojan spirit, though it is not exclusively awarded to cheerleaders. Recommendations for this scholarship are made by a panel of school faculty and leadership and selected by the Foundation Scholarship Committee.


The Joseph B. McGinnis, Sr. Memorial Scholarship

Graduating Carrollton High School in 1955 and serving as a Carrollton Board of Education member for 28 years and as mayor of the City of Carrollton for eight, Joe McGinnis served a life dedicated to supporting students in obtaining the highest-quality public education possible. This scholarship was established by his family in 2013 to honor his dedication and pride in the Carrollton City School System. It is presented annually to a graduating senior to further enhance the selected individual’s post-secondary education.

The Carrollton High School Alumni Scholarship

Established by the Class of 1966, the purpose of the Carrollton High School Alumni Scholarship is to recognize and reward the CHS tradition of excellence by honoring graduating seniors who exemplify a high level of success during their time at CHS in the areas of academics, leadership, service to community, humanitarianism, creativity and career aspirations. Scholarship recipients should show promise for continuing to advance those ideals throughout their lives and careers. Recipients of the Alumni Scholarship are exemplars of exceptional accomplishments and thereby set high standards for Carrollton High students.

The Sheri Davis "Mission Accomplished" Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Sheri Davis, a beloved fifth grade teacher at Carrollton Upper Elementary School. She had a positive impact on thousands of lives through her caring and creative teaching methods. Her calling in life was to impact kids and improve race relations in our community. She truly accomplished that mission and her legacy will continue through those who knew her.

The Akoye' Winston Warrior Scholarship

Established in 2018, this scholarship honors the memory of trojan student, Akoye Winston. Akoye's mother, LaSonya Heard, family and The Pleasant Grove church family chose to honor Akoye's life and legacy by awarding this scholarship to a student with demonstrated financial need.

The Sheri Davis Memorial Scholarship

The Sheri Davis Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Carrollton Middle School fifth grade teacher, Sheri Davis, who passed away on October 31, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. The scholarship is awarded each year to a deserving student who plans to pursue a career in education and who exhibits the love that Mrs. Davis had for her students.

The Kyle Liam Barry Scholarship

The family of Kyle Liam Barry, a 2008 honor graduate of Carrollton High School, established a scholarship to honor the memory of the son, brother, cousin, teammate and friend who played with distinction for the Trojan Varsity Soccer Team all four years of his high school career and who continued to play soccer at the next level on an academic/athletic scholarship at Reinhardt University before completing his studies at the University of Georgia in 2012. This scholarship recognizes soccer players who distinguish themselves in the classroom, on the field, and most important, in their character. Recommendations for this scholarship are made by a panel of school faculty and leadership and selected by the Foundation Scholarship Committee.

 


The Bennett Reed Stedwell Memorial Fund Scholarship

The Bennett Reed Stedwell Memorial Fund was established in 2018 by family and friends to honor the memory of 2010 Carrollton High School graduate Bennett Reed Stedwell, an exceptional student who was a founding member and captain of the internationally-recognized and award-winning CHS Trojan Remotely-Operated Vehicle (R.O.V.) Team. Preference for this scholarship is given to a member of the ROV team with consideration given to applicants involved in any robotic team or related field.

The Dr. Jerry Robinson Scholarship

The Dr. Jerry Robinson Scholarship was established to honor Dr. Jerry Robinson, Valedictorian of the Carrollton High School Class of 1958. Dr. Robinson was a successful Radiologist in the Carrollton community for 29 years before retiring. This scholarship was established by Alice, Jason, and Joe Robinson, to honor Dr. Robinson’s achievements at Carrollton High School and in the Carrollton community.

The Reico North Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2019 to honor the memory of Reico North, a beloved coach and outstanding athlete at Carrollton High School. Coach North impacted the lives of many young students through his love of tennis. This scholarship was established by Coach North's family to honor his achievements and legacy at Carrollton High School and in the Carrollton Community.

The Bryson Family Scholarship

The Bryson Family Scholarship was established in love and appreciation for the contributions Carrollton and the Carrollton City Schools System have made to the Bryson family since 1968. This scholarship aims to encourage a student who has met difficult challenges in his or her life with uncommon determination and to help further that student's education.

The Joshua Roy Mabry Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honors the memory of Joshua Roy Mabry, the longest-serving member of the Carrollton Board of Education and father and grandfather of several Carrollton High School graduates. Mr. Mabry’s family chose to honor his legacy of 29 years of consecutive service to the Carrollton school community by offering this scholarship in his memory.

The Trent North Family Scholarship

The Trent North Family Scholarship is offered to a deserving member of the Carrollton High School Class of 2020 by Trent North, a proud 1986 graduate of Carrollton High School and the father of two graduates. The scholarship is given in gratitude for the educational experience gained during Mr. North's 26 years of employment with Carrollton City Schools and is his way of thanking the citizens of Carroll County for investing in him.

The CHS National Honor Society Scholarship

The National Honor Society (NHS) is a national organization committed to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1921. Today, Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. The CHS National Honor Society was established in 1976 and was later named The Sara Louthan Chapter of the CHS NHS after long-time advisor Sara Louthan. Ms. Louthan was a Special Education teacher at CHS beginning in 1978 where she served as the advisor of NHS from 1979-1992. The CHS National Honor Society Scholarship was formed in an effort to recognize senior NHS students who have upheld the four pillars of NHS acting as a leader in the school and community, serving others through community involvement, and setting an example of high integrity and moral character for their peers.

The Chase McDaniel "Chase the Victory" Memorial Scholarship

The Chase McDaniel "Chase the the Victory" Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Carrollton High School student Chase McDaniel, who passed away on November 16, 2019, during his senior year, after a long battle with cancer. The scholarship is awarded each year to a student who exhibits the qualities Chase portrayed in his daily life. Chase inspired and encouraged others with an unwavering positive attitude and immense courage while sharing hope and spreading kindness to all that he met.
