Riding requirements/expectations

  • Riders are to be at their pick-up location 10 minutes before bus arrival time. Since drivers are watching out for the safety of all the children, they may not see children waiting on a porch or coming out of the home.
  • Buses will not be able to make extra stops to pick up late riders.
  • Riders must remain in their seats at all times, be well-mannered, and respect others while on the bus. Everyone's safety is jeopardized when bus drivers become distracted by inappropriate behavior.
  • No eating or drinking is allowed on buses.
  • Students will be allowed two designated persons to get them on and off bus.
  • Pictures, selfies or videos may not be taken on the bus
  • Students may not talk on the phone without the driver's permission.
  • Headphones, earbuds, etc, must be removed when boarding and exiting the bus.
  • No talking on phone while on bus unless given permission.

Parent/Guardian responsibilities:

  • Parent/Guardian shall make sure that the child/children are at the bus stop on time.

  • Parent/Guardian shall accompany children to the bus in the morning and meet them in the afternoon, if the child/children are in Pre-K - 3rd grade.  Students will be returned to their school if no one is there to receive them.  Also, students will be returned to their school if the driver cannot see or recognize the parent/guardian there to receive the student(s).

  • Parent/Guardian shall request a “Permission to Release” form from the school or driver if they would like to have a sibling who is at least in the 4th grade, or a designee, get a student off the bus who is in Pre-K - 3rd grade. Only two individuals will be allowed on the release form.

  • Please review all expectations and requirements listed in the Parent/Student Transportation Handbook HERE.

School bus safety initiatives

Seat belt requirements

Since 1992, Carrollton City Schools has been the only school system in the state to require all school buses to have seat belts for students.

‘CrossingGuard’ bus cameras program

The Carrollton City School System has partnered with American Traffic Solutions to deploy CrossingGuard®, ATS’ new technology to help school districts address the growing problem of illegal passing of school buses that are stopped for children to board or disembark. Before deciding to add the technology to the Carrollton City Schools school bus fleet, the school district conducted an informal study to determine the number of stop-arm violations. In one afternoon, a total of 23 violations occurred.“Student safety is at the forefront of every discussion we have in the school system,” said Michael Sanders, assistant superintendent of Carrollton City Schools. “Through the program, we hope to significantly reduce the number of these types of violations which will increase the overall safety of our students.”Through the program, high-resolution cameras are mounted to the front and rear driver’s side of a school bus to capture potential violation events. When the stop arm is deployed, the system detects if a vehicle passes the stopped school bus within the enforcement zone.Violation videos and license plate images will then be reviewed by the Carrollton Police Department for approval prior to citations being issued. In Georgia, the penalty for a violation will warrant the vehicle’s owner a $300 fine for the first offense, $750 fine for the second, and $1,000 for a third violation within a five-year period.“We are excited to partner with the City of Carrollton Police Department and American Traffic Solutions on this initiative,” said Sanders. “This new technology serves as another opportunity to educate the citizens and re-emphasize the importance of proceeding cautiously when approaching a school bus.”The school system installed the cameras at the start of the 2012-2013 school year.
