Music

CSO SUMMER MUSIC CAMP

Come join us for a fun and exciting week of musical exploration. This camp is all about fun, making new friends, and exploring the world of music! Students in grades 1-12 are invited to experience a week of learning, connecting, and performing with members of the Carroll Symphony Orchestra. Participants will study a major instrument, learn music history and theory, and experience the thrill of making music in a youth orchestra. Students are asked to bring their instruments. Students interested in string instruments can bring their own; however, the center will have violins for students that do not own an instrument. Optional private lessons will be available with the acclaimed musicians of the CSO during the afternoons. Campers will have the opportunity to perform with the Carroll Community Wind Ensemble and the Carrollton Jazz Orchestra on Friday, June 29 at 6:30pm. The concert is free and open to the public.

YOUTH CHOIR

If you just can’t sit still when listening to music, or hum along in the car, then this is the camp for you! This years concert theme is Adventures. Students will learn basic music elements, note & rhythm reading, harmony, and technical execution of their voice, while learning a program of exciting, fun music to prepare for our week ending camp performance for family and friends. Join us to start your singing journey and find your voice.

LITTLE BALLERINAS

In this 3-day, fairy tale themed camp, students will participate in activities that improve their sense of rhythm and coordination, as well inspire an appreciation of movement, music, and creativity. A special surprise from the magical world of ballet will excite our little ballerinas on the last day of the camp! No previous dance experience required.

NUTCRACKER AND SUGAR PLUM

Looking for a fun and memorable activity for your child? Our Nutcrackers & Sugar Plums camp may be perfect for you! This 3-day program is designed for 5-8 years old to explore movement, take part in a Nutcracker themed craft, and be a part of the magical Nutcracker story. A ballet-themed tea party and craft display finishes the fun at the conclusion of camp.

BALLET & BEYOND DANCE INTENSIVE

This camp is designed for students ages 9-12 who would like to learn the foundations of dance technique, work on performance skills, and grow as dancers. Students will gain confidence and strength through daily ballet class, as well as classes in Broadway dance, Folk Dance, Choreography, and rehearsals for a mini-showcase at the end of the week.

Theatre

TEEN STAGE MAKEUP CAMP

Let your imagination run wild as you explore the science and artistry that is stage and movie makeup! Cosmetics will be your paint and the human form will be your canvas as you let your creativity take flight!

This 3-day camp is a fun, hands-on exploration into the world of stage and movie makeup. Activities include a variety of themes and styles, including glamour and fashion, scars and special effects, and age/character development. Students will be taught the fundamentals of application, color theory and coordination, safety, sanitation and hygiene, contouring, and much, much more. After the workshop, our makeup artists get to display their handiwork before a live audience!

Nourishing the imagination, collaborating with others, critical thinking, knowledge of art, science and history, problem solving, and fine motor skills are a few of the benefits of learning the art of make-up.

SEUSSICAL KIDS MUSCIAL THEATRE CAMP

Become one of the many characters found in the world of Dr. Seuss. Join us as the Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton; an elephant who discovers a whole world in a speck of dust, including the inquisitive JoJo. But when Horton has to guard Mayzie LaBird’s egg, his tiny world is in danger! A classic story of faith and courage in the face of ridicule, you won’t want to miss out on your chance to be a part of this production.

Performance for Session I will be on Saturday, June 16 at 6pm with a dress rehearsal at 10am on the same day. Performance for Session II will be on Saturday, June 23 at 6pm with a dress rehearsal at 10am on the same day.

THEATRICAL MAKEUP CAMP

Summer Theatrical Camp is a one-week intensive camp for tweens aged 12 to 14 years’ old who are inspired by theatres latest character designs and trends. Campers will learn basic to advanced techniques from basic stage faces to fantastic creation and gory effects for big screen. Perfect for any aspiring to a career in theatre or film!

THE JUNGLE BOOK – PRIMARY MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP

The timeless tale of the Jungle Book, Mowgli and his pals Bageera, Baloo and Ka comes to life in this exciting camp! Campers must audition for roles and then come together to learn lines, character and basic production skills. This is a great introduction for the young actor to build confidence and theater knowledge.

CHARACTER MATTERS II YOUTH THEATER CAMP

We could all use some lessons in good ‘character’ and this hilarious, enlightening play will do the trick! This production for young actors leaps from the pages of your favorite fairy tales. As the fairy tale advice council helps the Big Bad Wolf learn the golden rule, Cinderella manage her anger, and Jack and the Giant learn to get along. Campers will work on memorization, character building and the theater skills with a live performance at the end of the week.

CLAY CAMP

This is the camp for the budding clay artist. If your little one is ready to graduate from playing in the mud to playing with clay, then look no further. Hand building skills from preparing the clay to slab building, coiling, and the wheel, will be explored before we glaze and fire our masterpieces to share with family and friends.

MOSAIC WORKSHOP

Mosaic is a form of art that is fun, easy and beautiful. Using small pieces that are arranged to create exciting and beautiful art work, we will use glass beads, tiles, stones, and handmade clay pieces. Join us as Master Mosaicist Helen Helwig teaches how small pieces of tile, stones, beads and clay can be arranged to create a new permanent vision.

‘HERE THERE BE DINOSAURS’ IMPACT ART

From research and design, to construction and finish, the world of dinosaurs will be in your creative hands! Artist and educator; Alan Kuykendall will load students on an innovative journey of sculpture and imagination centered on the lost world of dinosaurs. Students will also collaborate on a unique full size stegosaurus sculpture. Blending science and this camp experience has something for all!

NATURE THROUGH ART

Nature provides endless possibilities for subject matter and narrative. In this class, students will learn how to illustrate natural elements through botanical & entomology studies, still life, and landscapes. Working primarily on heavyweight watercolor paper and using a combination of mediums including graphite, colored pencil, watercolor and acrylic paint, students will learn techniques that bring life to their art! All levels of experience and ability are welcome. Drawing experience is recommended. Beginners are welcome.

CREATURE FEATURE ORIGINAL MASK MAKING

ACRYLIC POURING

Take your painting to a new level with this ‘action painting’ workshop that goes beyond the brush. CRAZY CLAY CAMP

Guest Artist, Kimberly Riner invites aspiring campers to come experience what it is like to become a crazy clay artist! Painting and some glazing and firing will add color and finish to the beautiful works created in this fun camp experience. A special display of works will be exhibited on the last day of camp.

FASHION DESIGN & COSTUME MAKING CAMP

Are you a budding costume or fashion designer looking for the newest ways to have fun with color, style and pattern while also learning the skills to create an exciting, personalized collection? In this course, our summer “fashionistas” will work on a number of fun projects designed to teach them about the rise of technology in the costume and fashion industry, as well as the timeless fun of making handmade creations. A great emphasis is placed on working together as a design team, encouraging each other, and sharing ideas and suggestions throughout the design process. Campers gain a wonderful insight into the industry, and of course, have tons of fun doing what they love!

We are bringing art to your neighborhood. Daily art projects will be offered in weekly increment at your Local Park, picnic shelter, or pavilion. CREATIVE WRITING SUMMER CAMP

This immersive camp will explore a variety of written forms from Novel to short story, poetry, and memoir. Visiting authors will join us and share exercises that will help novice writers communicate clearly and creatively. Write using all the senses, compose topics, or craft a dramatic script, anything is possible in writing. Come learn from some of our best local authors and start writing your masterpiece.

SEWING CAMP

Sewing Camp is designed specifically for kids (ages 8-12) who are new to sewing or have limited sewing experience. They will come away from this camp having learned a useful life-skill and have a blast doing it!
